Terms of Service

Welcome to Bunsho (accessible via www.bunsho.io, and referred to as "the Platform", "the Software", "We", "Us", or "Our"). These Terms of Service legally govern your access to, download of, and use of our desktop software application and website services. By creating an account, downloading the desktop software, or using the Platform, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please stop using the software and website immediately.

Description of service

Bunsho is an integrated writing environment designed for desktop systems. The Software uses automated continuity-checking mechanisms and AI utilities to detect contradictions, maintain story models, and map plot elements based on your manuscript. We reserve the right to modify software features, push updates, or restrict access to features or release channels at our sole discretion.

User accounts and verification

To activate the AI features of the desktop application, you sign in with Google, which provides us your email address, name and profile picture. You are entirely responsible for protecting your account access and local authentication state. You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or purchase a plan.

Fees, subscriptions, and billing

Our order process is conducted by our online reseller and Merchant of Record, Polar Software, Inc., which also handles global tax compliance, payment processing, invoicing, and billing support. When making a purchase you agree to comply with Polar's buyer terms. We do not collect or store your card details. Paid plans are billed on a recurring monthly basis from the day you subscribe. We reserve the right to alter plans or pricing; any change is communicated in advance and applies from your next billing cycle.

Credits

A paid plan includes a monthly credit allowance that resets at the start of each billing cycle and does not carry over. Credit packs purchased separately do not expire with the cycle and remain on your account. Plan credits are consumed before pack credits.

Cancellation and refunds

You may cancel your subscription at any time through the billing portal, which opens in your browser. Access to paid features continues until the end of your current paid billing period. Unused plan credits end with that period; purchased packs remain. Due to the digital nature of the Software, all sales are otherwise final, and because Polar is the Merchant of Record, refund decisions rest with Polar under their terms. Should we terminate your account for a reason other than a breach of these Terms, we will refund the unused portion of the period. Nothing here affects any rights you have under the consumer law of your own country.

Intellectual property: our property

The Bunsho software, design layouts, website code, continuity engines, algorithms, and interface branding are the exclusive property of Bunsho. You may not reverse-engineer, decompile, mirror, resell, or distribute the desktop binary without authorization, or use the Software to build a competing product.

Intellectual property: your manuscript

You retain 100% ownership and copyright of any text, characters, plots, or manuscripts you write or process inside Bunsho, including anything the Software drafts at your direction. Bunsho claims no rights over your creative writing. We do not use your writing to train models, ours or anyone else's, and the providers we use are bound by terms prohibiting training on it.

Acceptable use and restrictions

You agree not to exploit or abuse the Platform's infrastructure. Prohibited actions include attempting to bypass, overload, or stress-test our servers or AI processing pipelines; deploying malicious scripts, scraping our servers, or manipulating client-side state; automating access outside the application or reselling access to it; and using the Software's generative capabilities to produce or distribute illegal material. We may suspend accounts that do, and may decline requests that appear designed to run up cost rather than write a book.

Disclaimer of warranties ("as-is")

Bunsho is provided on an as-is and as-available basis. We make no representations or warranties, express or implied, regarding software uptime, perpetual error-free continuity tracking, or constant availability of server-side features. Continuity checking is a reading of your manuscript rather than a proof: it will miss things and will sometimes flag something that is fine. Drafted prose is a starting point, not finished work. Keep your own backups, as you would with any writing tool. Download and use the Software at your own risk.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Bunsho shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including data loss, manuscript corruption, loss of profits, system downtime, or failure of local hardware running the Software. For all other claims, our total aggregate liability is limited to the amounts you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
