Back up your books
Bunsho saves a daily backup on your computer. You can also back up now or copy the folder yourself.
Updated October 15, 2026
Your book is already on your computer. A backup is a second copy, so one mistake or one broken drive does not cost you the book.
Back up now
- Open Settings (⌘, on Mac, Ctrl+, on Windows) and choose General.
- Scroll to Backup.
- Click Back up now. It says "Backup complete." when it is done.
The card also tells you when the last backup happened.
Daily backups
On a paid plan the card shows more controls:
- Daily or Off: when on, Bunsho backs up once a day and when you quit. It keeps the newest 10.
- Location: where backups go. The first choice is a Backups folder inside your Bunsho folder. Click Change... to pick another place, such as an external drive.
- Reveal: opens the backup folder so you can see the files.
Each backup is one zip file with your book's name and the date. To restore, unzip it and open the folder with File, then Open Workspace....
Tip:The built-in sample story is not backed up.
Or copy the folder yourself
Copy your whole .boworkspace folder to a USB drive or a cloud folder. Close the book first for the safest copy. See Where your files live.
Careful:A backup kept only on the same drive will not help if that drive fails. Keep one copy somewhere else.
