My Mac will not open Bunsho
What to try when macOS blocks Bunsho or says it cannot be opened.
Updated October 15, 2026
You double-click Bunsho and macOS refuses, with a message that the app cannot be opened or is damaged.
Why it happens
The official Bunsho download for Mac is signed and checked by Apple. The usual causes are a download that did not finish, a copy that came from somewhere other than bunsho.io, or the wrong version for your Mac. There are two Mac downloads, one for Apple silicon and one for Intel Macs.
Fix it
- Delete the Bunsho you tried to open, and empty the Trash.
- Go to bunsho.io/download and download the Mac version again. Choose the Intel version if your Mac is Intel. To check, open the Apple menu and choose About This Mac: a chip name such as M1 or M2 means Apple silicon.
- Wait for the download to finish, then open the .dmg file.
- Drag Bunsho into your Applications folder.
- Open Bunsho from Applications, not from the disk image.
- If macOS still blocks it, open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down, and look for a message about Bunsho with an Open Anyway button. Select it and confirm.
If you still see a message, write to support@bunsho.io with your macOS version, whether your Mac is Intel or Apple silicon, and the exact words on the screen.
