I do not see the update
How Bunsho updates itself, how to check by hand, and where to get the latest version.
Updated October 15, 2026
You heard there is a new version, but your Bunsho has not offered it.
How updates arrive
Bunsho checks for updates when it opens and again while it runs. When one is found, it downloads in the background while you keep writing. Then a bar appears saying Bunsho is ready. Restart to update. with a Restart now button.
Fix it
- Open the Bunsho menu (Mac) or the File menu (Windows) and choose Check for Updates.... You can also open Settings... and select Check for updates in the Updates row.
- Wait a moment. The row shows Checking…, then Downloading update…, then Update ready.
- Select Restart now. If you closed the bar, the same button is in Settings.
- If it says Update check failed. Retrying automatically., check your internet connection and try again later.
- If it still does not update, download the newest version from bunsho.io/download and install it over the old one. Your books stay as they are, because they live in your own folder.
Tip:Updates only work in the installed app. If you run Bunsho from a download folder or a disk image, move it to Applications (Mac) or use the installer (Windows) first.
