Plans and credits

What Free, Quill, Storyteller and Saga include, and what credits are spent on.

Updated October 15, 2026

The editor is free. You pay for deliberate AI moments: a chapter check, a full review, a directed scene. Writing is never metered. Typing, saving and editing never use credits.

The plans

  • Free, $0: one project, with World and the Planner, plus starter credits to try continuity checks and Director.
  • Quill, $8 a month: unlimited projects and the full editor, World and Planner. No AI credits, so no checks or Director.
  • Storyteller, $15 a month: everything in Quill, plus continuity checks and Director, with a monthly allowance of credits.
  • Saga, $29 a month: everything in Storyteller, with a larger monthly allowance for daily drafting and series work.

Prices are in US dollars. See Pricing for the current plans.

What credits are for

Credits are spent only when Bunsho reads or checks your manuscript: checking a chapter, reviewing changes, a full review, and Director. Before a check starts, the app shows what it will cost. See What a check costs.

Two kinds of credits

  • Plan credits come with your plan and reset each billing period. Unused plan credits do not carry over.
  • Extra credits come from a Credit pack, a one-time purchase. They never expire. Plan credits are used first.

See your balance

  1. Open Settings (⌘, on Mac, Ctrl+, on Windows).
  2. Choose Billing to see your balance and your plan. Choose Usage to see recent activity, such as each check and what it used.

The balance also appears when you click your name at the bottom of the binder.

Tip:Payments are handled by Polar, our payment provider.
