What is sent off your computer, and when

Pages are sent only when you run a check. They are not stored and never used for training.

Updated October 16, 2026

Your manuscript lives on your computer, not on our servers. Here is what is sent, and when.

When you run a check or a directed scene

  • Checking one chapter sends that chapter, not the whole book.
  • Reviewing changes sends only the pages that changed since they were last checked.
  • A full review sends the pages it reads.
  • Director sends what it needs to write the scene you asked for.

Checks only happen when you ask. The app shows the cost first, and you can stop. Saving does not send your writing anywhere. While you type, the thesaurus looks up the single word you are typing, as described below.

What happens to those pages

They are used to produce your result and are not stored on our servers afterwards. They are never used to train models, ours or anyone else's.

What else is sent

  • Your name, email and profile picture, when you sign in.
  • If you are signed in and reminders are on: the last day you wrote, that day's word count, your daily goal, your streaks and your time zone. Never your writing, and never your book or chapter titles. Turn reminders off in Settings.
  • While the thesaurus is on, the word you are typing goes to Datamuse, a free public word-lookup service, to fetch suggestions. Only that one word is sent, never the sentence around it, and it does not go to us. Click Thesaurus in the editor toolbar to turn it off.
  • Basic technical information, such as your system type, app version and crash reports, to fix bugs.
  • Purchase and credit records, handled with our payment provider, Polar. We never see your card number.

Signed out, checks are off, so no pages are sent for them. The full details are in the Privacy Policy and on Local-first.
