Check a chapter

Ask Bunsho to check the chapter you are in against the rest of your story. You see the cost first.

Updated October 15, 2026

Bunsho never checks your writing while you type. It checks a chapter when you ask. This is the quickest way to ask.

The Check chapter button in the strip above the chapter you are editing
The Check chapter button sits above your chapter.

Check the chapter you are in

  1. Open the chapter you want checked.
  2. Click Check chapter above the page. Or press ⌘⇧C on Mac or Ctrl+Shift+C on Windows. Or choose File → Check This Chapter.
  3. A small box opens under the button. It says Check this chapter and, when the app knows it, the approximate cost in credits.
  4. Click Check now to go ahead, or Cancel (or press Esc) to leave it.
  5. Wait while the button says Checking…. When it is done, look in the Continuity tab for anything Bunsho wants to ask you about.
Tip:No credits are used until you click Check now. Closing the box, clicking elsewhere, or switching chapters cancels it.

What a check looks at

Bunsho re-reads this chapter and checks it against your story so far. If it finds something that does not sit right, it shows it as a finding for you to look at. A finding is a question, not a ruling. See Read a finding.

If you are not signed in, or on Quill

  • Signed out: Check chapter invites you to sign in instead of opening the cost box.
  • On the Quill plan: it opens billing with the Storyteller upgrade, because checks come with Storyteller.

If the check does not run

A short red message appears in the box. Common ones: the chapter is too long to check, or you are out of credits. See My chapter is too long to check and A check failed. The sample story cannot run checks.
