My check stopped or says it failed. What now?

What the messages mean, how to try again, and when credits are given back.

Updated October 15, 2026

A check starts but ends with Review failed, or Bunsho says it cannot reach the continuity engine.

Why it happens

A check sends the pages to Bunsho and waits for the answer. If your internet drops, the service is busy, or the chapter changes while it is being read, the check can stop before it finishes. Your manuscript is not harmed.

Try this

  1. Read the message in the Review failed card. It says what happened.
  2. If it says The continuity engine is not reachable., check your internet connection and make sure you are not on a network that blocks the app.
  3. If it says the service is busy or the connection was interrupted, wait a minute.
  4. Select Try again. The button shows the price if there is one, so you know before it runs.
  5. If the message says Sign in to review your manuscript., sign in first. See I cannot sign in.
  6. If the message says a chapter was edited while it was being checked, finish your edits and check that chapter again.

What about credits?

Some messages say plainly what happened to your credits, for example that unused credits were refunded, or that nothing was charged. Others say a check was charged because the work was done but could not be saved. Read the message: it tells you which applies. Paused reviews show Resume review, which continues without charging chapters you already paid for.

Tip:If a chapter is over the size limit, trying again will not help. See Why does Bunsho say my chapter is too long to check?.
