Write in the editor
Style your text, change the font and size, and know that your words are saved as you type.
Updated October 15, 2026
Click a chapter in the binder and the editor opens in the middle of the window. Just start typing.

Your words save themselves
There is no save button to remember. About a second after you stop typing, Bunsho saves the chapter to your computer. While it saves, Saving… appears in the bar above the page. Switching chapters or quitting saves first.
If a save fails, a warning appears: Your last changes could NOT be saved. Bunsho keeps retrying. Free some disk space or check the folder, and the next retry will go through. You can also use File → Save (⌘S on Mac, Ctrl+S on Windows).
Word and character count
The bar above the page shows the chapter's count, for example 1,240 words · 6,900 chars. It updates as you type.
The toolbar
- Text Style menu: Paragraph, Heading 1, Heading 2 and Heading 3.
- Font Family menu: Default, Arial, Georgia, Times New Roman, Courier New, Verdana, Palatino, Garamond, Bookman, Comic Sans and Trebuchet. Select some text first, then pick a font.
- Text size: the minus and plus buttons make the whole page larger or smaller. The number between them is the size. Click it to go back to the default of 18. The range is 14 to 28.
- B, I, U, S: bold, italic, underline and strikethrough.
- Highlight, Lists (bullet or numbered), Blockquote, Code Block, Text Alignment (left, center, right, justify), Insert Link and Horizontal Rule.
- Thesaurus: a switch for word suggestions. See Find a better word with the thesaurus.
Make the text bigger
Text size changes only the page, not the menus. You can also use View → Larger Text, Smaller Text and Actual Text Size: ⌘+, ⌘- and ⌘0 on Mac, Ctrl+ plus, minus and 0 on Windows. Bunsho remembers your choice.
Typing helpers
In Settings, three switches control as-you-type help: Auto-capitalization, Smart typography (curly quotes, dashes and ellipses) and Fix missing apostrophes. Each can be turned On or Off.
Check spelling
Misspelled words are marked as you type. See Spell check and your dictionary.
