Your first read: what Bunsho asks, and what "Not now" does
After you bring in a book, Bunsho offers to read it once. It shows the cost first, and you can say Not now.
Updated October 15, 2026
Before Bunsho can look for contradictions, it has to read your chapters. When a book has chapters Bunsho has not read yet, a small window appears and asks. Nothing starts until you say so.
What the window says
- The title is Read your manuscript? If Bunsho got partway through last time, it says Finish checking your manuscript? instead.
- It names how many chapters it would read, and the approximate cost in credits when the app knows it.
- It repeats two promises: Review starts only when you choose Start. and Writing is never metered.
Start the read
- Read the chapter count and the cost in the window.
- Click Start if you are happy with both.
- Watch the Continuity tab on the right. It shows progress while Bunsho reads and checks your chapters.
- When it finishes, any findings appear in that tab. See Read a finding.
If you choose Not now
- Nothing is read and nothing is charged. Your book is untouched.
- Bunsho remembers your answer for that book. It will not ask again about the same chapters. It asks again only when new, unread chapters turn up, for example after another import.
- You can start the same read yourself at any time. Open the Continuity tab and click Run full review. See Review the whole book.
- You can also check one chapter at a time with Check chapter. See Check a chapter.
If the read stops partway
If you run out of credits, the Continuity tab shows an Out of credits card with a note that your existing findings are kept. Add credits, then continue. If the window offers to finish a read you already paid for, it says those chapters are not charged again.
If your book came in as one huge chapter, Bunsho cannot check it. See My chapter is too long to check.
